Our story
Able began in 1960 as the Tulare County Training Center for the Handicapped. It started with a volunteer staff and a client population of under 20 individuals.
What began as a drop-in center for arts and crafts grew over time to incorporate work training as its primary focus. Stuffing envelopes, packaging and product sorting were early contracts with local businesses.
Over time, the agency has grown to provide services to the greater part of Tulare County.
We recently moved to a 37,000-square-foot facility in the Industrial Park of Visalia, where we offer life skills programs, job training and intern opportunities, and competitive integrated employment programs — and where our administrative offices are located.
Programs

Our Day Training Activity Center program focuses on real-life skills, taught in ways that are engaging, supportive and fun.
Who can join: adults 18 and older with a referral from the Central Valley Regional Center (CVRC).
Building inclusion through meaningful work.
We’re bringing more of our training into real-world settings — partnering with local businesses, volunteering, and connecting with the people and places that make our community vibrant and inclusive.

An evening to celebrate the Able legacy — honouring six decades of mission-driven work and the community that made it possible.
Board meetings are open to the public and are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 4:00 p.m. at Able Inc. Community members are welcome to attend.
